Loyal readers noticed that the Sun hasn't come out in a couple weeks. All of our current reporters, editors, and publishers were on vacation at the same time, so there is a lot to get caught up on. The Sun shines again this morning on Freedom Friday!
☀️Free Kids
The Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade two weeks ago today. For almost 50 years our federal law protected the slaughter of babies under the guise of a constitutional right. No matter how legal, we as a country have the blood of over 60 million murders on our hands. It is right that this unrighteous law has been rejected.
Roe’s case was used to invent a right in the Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, so overturning it doesn’t eliminate abortions, it only returns the decision to state legislatures. Thankfully many states have already banned abortions. But it is still legal in Washington, which means there is still much to do so that all kids are free to be born.
Starting locally, perhaps it would be possible to prohibit Planned Parenthood from operating in Marysville. Just as the city banned recreational marijuana businesses, why not also ban a business that offers killing in a pill? Again, more work ahead to “rescue those being taken away to death.”
☀️Free Fireworks

Independence Day is a favorite holiday in Marysville and has been for a long time. On July 4th, 1882, the city’s founder, James Comeford, “held a large and raucous celebration” at the site of his second hotel with feasting and dancing and a reading of the Declaration of Independence (source).
When the Editor of the Sun moved to Marysville in June 2001 he did not understand the delight of so many of his neighbors as they exploded paycheck’s worth of fireworks in their driveways and streets. These raucous celebrations continued for many years, awakening sleeping babies and maddening neurotic dogs, until the city banned fireworks in 2017 in order to “reduce property damage and injuries.” The Editor was mostly glad for more quiet and less detritus in his neighborhood, and he was thankful when the city began organizing its own shows again. This past Monday Marysville partied with food trucks and fireworks at Ebey Waterfront Park.
But in the last couple years, as governments at all levels—national, state, county, and city—grabbed more responsibility for themselves away from the people, the Editor wonders if maybe it would be better for citizens, and their leaders, to recognize again the “Right of the People.” Is our celebration of the Declaration of Independence really consistent when we trust others to use our money to keep us safe from ourselves? Wouldn’t it be better to let men be free with their fireworks, even as just one small symbol of their “unalienable rights…to effect their (own) Safety and Happiness”?
☀️Free Seat
The Sun is sad to see Mr. Jeffrey Vaughan leave his seat on the City Council. Due to the timing of his resignation, his seat will be filled by appointment from the Council and won’t be up for a vote until 2023. While the deadline to apply has already passed, candidates will have an opportunity to make a statement at the City Council meeting on Monday, July 11, and final interviews are scheduled for the Council meeting on July 25.

☀️Free Bovine
On Wednesday, June 22, a calf caused northbound I-5 to be closed in Marysville. Apparently the cow had been on the loose for two days. At this time the Sun assumes the cow is home and well.
Hooray for the end of falsely reasoned legal shenanigans such as Roe v. Wade! And, it would be nice to see less govt busybody rule-making, and a bit more legal fireworks fun inside the towns. The big city display on Independence Day was great, by the way, thanks to the Marysville city workers who put that on.
