GM. It’s Friday. Attack!
☀️City Jealousability
If everything is politics, then politics includes donuts. And who doesn’t want more donuts?!
I start with this philosophical line of thought, which crashes from serious to silly as fast as a three year-old after scarfing down a half-dozen glazed, to make an obvious point. A diet full of donuts will kill you, probably, and gradually. So will politics, depending on your portion control.
In these days it is very tempting to be in BATTLE MODE. It’s tempting because our media overlords understand the attention-leashing power of anger; we can sustain our vexation through a few minutes of commercials better than our veneration. But it’s also tempting because so many of our government overlords are hell-bent. I mean that, full stop. It’s especially true at the state level in WA, and currently at the national level in Washington. They are playing gods, defining good and evil willy-nilly, giving approval to all the sins that make a man deserving of death. So sure, we are indeed in a relentless wrestling match against rulers and authorities and cosmic powers over this present darkness. Be strong.
And also, it’s okay to remember what we’re fighting for. It's okay not to be outraged at the current OUTRAGEOUS THING, at least not every scrolling minute. It’s okay to have something GOOD and be grateful for it. In fact, that’s part of the reason the battle is so hot; the devil and his children hate it when others are blessed.
We (Christians) pray for those in Olympia, not just that they would leave us alone (and how amazing would just that be?!), but that they would turn away from their current lusts in order to have what we have. It would be so much better for them. Of course that means we should enjoy our somethings better. Those blessings come from the Lord Jesus Christ, they are gifts from Him to those who please Him.
Those gifts include, but are not limited to: husbands and wives that keep their vows, dads and moms that discipline their kids, pastors that feed and guard their flocks, teachers that know the difference between male and female, neighbors that mow one another’s lawns, baristas that smile, city councils that understand budgets, salesmen that tell the truth, and kids that learn to love the Lord.
All these things are political but in the radical sense. The word politics is rooted in the Greek word polis which means “city.” Based politics are neighbor-loving policies and practices. For six days we live together, buy and sell from, celebrate and mourn with, and then worship Christ on Sunday, seeking His blessing on the work of our hands.
When a bunch of people do this together in a city, like, say, Marysville (!), by God’s grace we become jealousable. That’s a word you can only find in the Urban Dictionary, but the meaning is as obvious as bacon on a maple bar. The #blessed have something that all the mini-Marxists want. It’s not because we deserve it, but because God is actually not far from each one of us, and His generosity constantly points to His Lordship of heaven and earth, from sea to shining sea, and city by city.
☀️Clean Coverage
Have you heard about the Marysville Litter League?
Per the city’s website, it’s “a new volunteer litter pickup program aimed at keeping the community clean and beautiful.” Clever name, good promotion.
On Thursday The Herald ran a story about Toni Kief who is currently leading the Litter League in BPU (Bags Picked Up). I’ve got no need whatsoever for Earth Day peddling, but the effort to get trash off the streets is only good. #MMGA
