October may be flying by, but the wind feels good. Enjoy!
☀️Mommas, How’s About Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Lawyers
Are you familiar with the internet acronym: TL;DR? It stands for Too Long; Didn’t Read. Sometimes it introduces a summary of an article in case someone really doesn't want to read the whole thing. Here is the TL;DR for today:
We need the Lord to raise up more Christian lawyers.
We need this at least for a season, in this current context, until such time as we don’t need any lawyers. Christians who have their eyes open see an overly litigious, sue-happy society and want to criticize and distance ourselves from it. We’re actually given instructions not to take brothers to court in front of non-Christian judges; it’s a bad testimony on a couple levels. We’ve also watched enough of the “Law and Order” genre to get the creeps about stereotypical slick and manipulative attorneys. It looks like an ugly world, because it is an ugly world.
But that’s what good men are for. They stand up for right in a world drowning in wrong. An unjust man is an abomination to the righteous. A righteous man knows the rights of the poor. The righteous are as bold as a lion. When justice is done it is a a joy to the righteous. Evil men do not understand justice, but those who seek the Lord understand it completely. A righteous man doesn’t need to be a lawyer, but wouldn’t it help if we had a few?
As an anecdote, I’ve always enjoyed explaining that the first “missionary” our church supported was an attorney. It’s typical for churches to give monthly financial donations to a foreign missionary, or to many such missionaries and their families, and/or to missions organizations. Sometimes churches send money to non-profits doing relief work in far away places even if making disciples of Jesus isn’t the presenting purpose. But we gave money every month to a lawyer who had left his high-paying position at a firm in Seattle to start his own practice serving families trying to adopt.
Adoption is tough in Washington. The government would much rather see a baby aborted than adopted. Once born, the government would much rather not support traditional families, as in a family with a male husband/father and female wife/mother. Add to that restrictions on discipline methods and other household matters. The process is expensive, the bureaucracy exhausting, and Christians/conservatives often treated as the primary enemies. Having a representative who knows the system and can confidently advocate on behalf of sanity is a great blessing.
Adoption is just one example. Has Olympia ever seen a stupid law they won’t give a try? The lawyer-ese and the pages of paperwork is enough to bury most men's motivation even to save his own assaulted rights. On a practical level, we need those who can fight jots and tittles with dotted “i”s and crossed “t”s.
Why not promote, even celebrate, more jurist type jobs? If every lawful vocation pleases the Lord, wouldn’t the “law” count as lawful? We’ve seen liars and cheats become lawyers, and then get appointed as judges and attorney generals. Why not replace them with truth-seekers and truth-speakers? We badmouth lawyers, when really we should focus vitriol on bad lawyers.
It’s not just for adoption, but other family issues such as property and inheritance. There are plenty of private/Christian school questions and protections, let alone a long-term goal of getting Christian education out from under any authority of the state board of education. Employees in the medical field, business owners, and how many others could use the knowledgable legal help?
My guess is that a good Christian lawyer would be too busy doing work. We need a host of men with courage and logic, who love righteousness and are ready to fight against the systemic injustices done in the name of justice.
☀️Looking Around
Here’s a great story about a “baby box” installed in a New Mexico town (as seen on Not the Bee).

Even though we’re in War Season, it’s not bad to make preparations for Coronavirus Season. Here’s a link to a 33 second-long video comparing sizes of cells. Knowledge is power.
